Taiwan Gov't Funds Homegrown Brands, Foreign Brand Acquisition
December 23, 2005
Taiwan's CEPD (Council for Economic Planning and Development) has decided to provide NT$80 billion in loans to encourage Taiwanese companies to develop own-branded products and acquire overseas companies. Of the amount, NT$30 billion is allocated for own-brand development and NT$50 billion for foreign brand acquisition. The acquisition includes obtaining brand names' ownership or usage rights in overseas markets and gaining enterprises' management and control rights, which means owning more than a 50% share and a 25% share, respectively.
